Gaming facilities moratorium extended indefinitely

The Alberta Gaming, Liquor & Cannabis (AGLC) is responsible for ensuring that the growth of Alberta’s gaming industry is carefully controlled and well managed so that it can maximize the benefits returned to Albertans.

Since 2008, AGLC Board has been deferring consideration of new casino and Racing Entertainment Centre (REC) licences.

At its meeting on January 22, 2015, the Board decided to extend this moratorium indefinitely in order to help prevent market over-saturation and to protect charitable revenue. Therefore, at this time, AGLC is not accepting applications for new casino or REC facilities.
