Board

As outlined in the Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Actthe AGLC Board is responsible for the governance of AGLC and overseeing the management of AGLC’s business affairs. The board:

  • guides AGLC’s strategic direction;
  • approves and monitors AGLC’s business plan, fiscal and capital plans, and financial results;
  • evaluates the performance of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO);
  • makes decisions about gaming, liquor and cannabis licences and registrations;
  • conducts hearings related to alleged violations of the Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Act; Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Regulation; or AGLC policies.

The board is accountable to the Minister of Service Alberta and Red Tape Reduction of the Government of Alberta.

Membership

The AGLC Board of Directors is made up of up to nine independent members and the AGLC CEO. Of the nine board members, one member is designated as the board chair. Both the board members and CEO are appointed by the Lieutenant Governor in Council. Board members can serve for terms of up to three years with a maximum of 10 years of service.
